Scarlino joins the Bio District.
The Municipality of Scarlino formalised its membership of the 'Colline della Pia' Bio Districtmarking a significant step towards a more sustainable future for the Upper Maremma.
The announcement arrived on 31 July 2025, bringing the number of municipalities involved in the project to four: Roccastrada, Gavorrano, Massa Marittima and, indeed, Scarlino.
With this new entry, the Bio District consolidates its leading role at promotion of organic farming and sustainable land development. The numbers speak for themselves: over 20,000 hectares of agricultural landwith approximately 42% cultivated according to the principles of biological, and more than 340 farms involved in the network. A virtuous ecosystem that focuses on short supply chains, the valorisation of local products and the integration of agriculture, tourism and culture.
"By joining the Bio-district," said the Mayor of Scarlino, Francesca Travison - our municipality takes an important step towards sustainability and the valorisation of local production. It is a bottom-up initiative and represents an opportunity for economic, environmental and social growth for our community'.
"Entering the Bio District," he added the Councillor for Agriculture Giorgio Maestrini - means sharing a vision of the future based on quality, traceability and respect for natural resources. Scarlino is there and will play its part with conviction'.

To celebrate this new milestone, a public event will soon be organised with the participation of the mayors of the adhering municipalities. This will be an opportunity to present to citizens and agricultural operators the new opportunities for collaboration and growth generated by Scarlino's membership of the Bio Distretto.
